Medication Safety

Why Medication Synchronization Can Improve Your Adherence

Missing doses is one of the most common reasons medications stop working. Med sync can help — here's how it works and who benefits most.

Why Medication Synchronization Can Improve Your Adherence

Beyond Care Pharmacy • 4 min read

If you're taking more than one prescription medication, you've likely experienced the frustration of running out of different medications on different days. One refill is due the 3rd of the month, another on the 17th, a third on the 24th. That's three separate pharmacy trips — and three separate opportunities to miss a dose.

What is medication synchronization?

Medication synchronization (or “med sync”) aligns all of your refills to a single date each month. Instead of picking up medications piecemeal, everything is ready on the same day.

Who benefits most?

Patients managing chronic conditions — diabetes, hypertension, thyroid conditions, high cholesterol — typically take multiple daily medications. Missing a dose of a critical medication can have real clinical consequences. Med sync is also valuable for caregivers managing medications for a family member.

How to get started

Call us at (248) 477-2131 and ask about med sync enrollment. We'll review your medications, align the refill dates, and set up a monthly schedule. There's no extra charge for this service.

For informational purposes only. Always consult your pharmacist or physician regarding your medications.

Vaccinations

Which Vaccines Do Adults Actually Need in 2025?

Beyond Care Pharmacy • 5 min read

Most people are familiar with childhood vaccine schedules — but adult vaccination requirements are less well-known and often neglected.

Flu vaccine — annually

The influenza vaccine should be received every fall, ideally by end of October. High-dose formulations are recommended for adults 65 and older. We administer flu shots year-round — no appointment needed.

Tdap / Td booster — every 10 years

If you haven't had a tetanus booster in the past 10 years, you're due. Especially important for adults in close contact with infants, as whooping cough can be life-threatening for newborns.

Shingles (Shingrix) — adults 50+

Shingrix is a two-dose series recommended for all adults 50 and older. It's highly effective at preventing both shingles and post-herpetic neuralgia.

Pneumococcal — adults 65+

Protects against pneumonia and other serious infections. Recommended for adults 65+ and younger adults with certain health conditions.

We administer all of the above at Beyond Care Pharmacy. Stop in during business hours — no appointment necessary.

For informational purposes only. Consult your pharmacist or physician for personalized recommendations.

Compounding

What Is Pharmaceutical Compounding and Is It Right for You?

Beyond Care Pharmacy • 5 min read

When mass-produced medications don't meet a patient's specific needs, pharmaceutical compounding provides a solution. Compounding is the preparation of a customized medication by a licensed pharmacist, based on a physician's prescription.

When is compounding appropriate?

Common reasons: allergies to commercial dyes or preservatives, need for a liquid form of a tablet-only medication, need for a dose not commercially manufactured, and bioidentical hormone therapy tailored to individual lab results.

Is compounding safe?

Compounding by a licensed, reputable pharmacy is safe and legal. Beyond Care Pharmacy follows all applicable state and federal regulations. Every compound is prepared with USP-grade ingredients and reviewed by our licensed pharmacist.

How to request a compounded medication

Have your prescriber send us a compounding script, or call us at (248) 477-2131 to discuss your needs.

For informational purposes only. Consult your pharmacist or physician before requesting a compounded medication.

5 Questions to Ask Your Pharmacist at Every Visit

Beyond Care Pharmacy • 3 min read

Your pharmacist is the most accessible healthcare professional in your community. Here are five questions that can make a real difference in your health outcomes.

1. Are there any interactions between my medications?

Your pharmacist has a full view of your medication profile and can flag combinations that may cause problems — including OTC drugs and supplements you might not mention to your doctor.

2. Is this the best time of day to take this medication?

Timing matters. Some medications are more effective taken with food, some should be taken at night, and some interact with morning coffee or grapefruit juice.

3. Is there a generic available?

Generic medications are bioequivalent to their brand-name counterparts and often a fraction of the cost. Always ask — the difference can be significant on maintenance medications.

4. What should I do if I miss a dose?

The answer varies by medication. For some drugs, you take it as soon as you remember. For others, you skip it and resume your schedule. Getting this wrong can reduce effectiveness or cause harm.

5. What side effects should I watch for?

Your pharmacist can tell you which side effects are common and manageable, and which ones warrant a call to your doctor.

For informational purposes only. Always consult your pharmacist or physician regarding your medications.

Medication Therapy Management

A one-on-one consultation with our pharmacist to review all your medications, reduce risks, and optimize your treatment.

More than dispensing — real pharmaceutical care

MTM is a structured, private consultation where our pharmacist reviews every medication you take — prescription, OTC, vitamins, and supplements — to identify problems, reduce costs, and make sure your therapy is working as intended.

What happens in an MTM session
01

Comprehensive medication review

We go through every medication you take. You bring the bottles — we review everything together.

02

We identify opportunities

Drug interactions, duplications, unnecessary medications, dosing issues, side effects — we catch what others miss.

03

You get a personal action plan

A written medication list and action plan. We communicate with your care team as needed.

What MTM can do for you
Catch dangerous interactions

Many patients on multiple medications have undetected interactions. MTM finds them before they cause harm.

Reduce medication costs

We identify generics, overlapping prescriptions, and assistance programs that lower your costs.

Improve your health outcomes

Optimized therapy means your medications are actually doing what they are supposed to do.

Written medication list

You leave with a complete, organized list of all your medications — valuable for any ER visit or new provider.

Direct communication with your doctor

We coordinate with your prescribers when changes are recommended.

Often covered by Medicare Part D

Medicare Part D members who meet certain criteria qualify at no additional cost. We will verify your eligibility.

Who qualifies for MTM?

MTM is especially beneficial for patients who take 5 or more chronic medications, have 2 or more chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, or heart disease, or are enrolled in Medicare Part D. Any patient who wants a thorough medication review can request one — just call us.

Schedule your MTM consultation

Call us to set up a time. Sessions typically take 30–45 minutes and can be done in-store or by phone.
